Five Minutes at THE EXCHANGE: What MMI Builds in Montgomery

Twenty slides, five minutes, one room in the Kress Building. This is the talk, written out for people who were not there.

Twenty slides, five minutes, a room in the Historic Kress Building full of people from Montgomery's tech, creative, higher ed, government and startup circles. That is the Ignite format, and it is a good discipline. You cannot hide behind detail. You have to say what you do and why it matters.

This is the talk MMI gave at THE EXCHANGE on August 24, hosted in coordination with the I85 Tech Corridor, Map360 and Alana Enfinity, written out for people who were not in the room.

Who we are

MM Intelligence is an AI-native software company headquartered in Montgomery, Alabama, with operations in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. We build AI systems, automations, voice agents, and web and mobile apps for businesses and institutions, and we teach people how to use the tools. We are a member of the NVIDIA Inception program and an OpenAI Select Partner.

Everything else in the talk was examples, because examples are the only thing that means anything.

What we have built here

AskMGM. A free civic tool where anyone can ask a question about Montgomery in plain English and get an answer drawn from 45 of the city's public datasets. Where are the parks near me. What permits were issued on my street. It is simply out there for residents to use. We wrote up how we built it.

Mango. An AI front desk that answers a business's phone when nobody can pick up, handles the conversation, books the appointment and texts a summary. Built for the kind of local service business where a missed call is a missed job. Montgomery businesses are using it now.

MateMove. A free, private fitness app on the iPhone App Store. Workouts, nutrition, steps, with AI features you can turn on if you want them. No ads, no data sold.

The Old Alabama Town beacon tour. A self-guided tour app for the Landmarks Foundation that uses battery-powered beacons to deliver each building's story to a visitor's phone, without drilling a single hole in a historic structure. The builder's log is here.

And the workshops. Hands-on AI sessions at Alabama State University, Auburn University, SBOSS Montgomery and elsewhere, where people build something they will use the next day. Every session is listed here.

Why we said all that

Montgomery has a habit of importing technology from somewhere else and a habit of assuming the interesting work happens in Birmingham, Atlanta or Austin. We wanted a room full of people who shape this city to know that production AI systems are being designed, built and shipped from Montgomery, for Montgomery organizations, by a team that lives here.

What we asked for

Two things.

Partners. Organizations, agencies, nonprofits and companies in the River Region with a real problem that software or AI could solve, who want to work with a team they can sit across a table from.

Interns and researchers. Students and early-career people from the local universities who want to build real systems, not toy projects, and who want to do it here.

Both asks stand. If either one is you, reach out.

Thanks to THE EXCHANGE and its organizers for the stage, and to everyone who stayed to talk afterward.
